Field Day 2010
June 26 & 27
The Club met at 5:45 a.m at RUSTY'S for breakfast proir to starting the Field Day Event. After a nice breakfast everyone was off to BLM Partners Point to position the Club Trailer and put up the antenna. The antenna of choice was the G5RV Multi-Band inverted V Di-pole.
Bill Bryan the Supervisor of Partners Point had breakfast with us at Rusty's an opened the gates and moved one of the heavy equipment tractors from one of the Parking stalls so we could use it for our Emergency Trailer. Boy did that work out nice, really provided that very important shade for the Trailer and helped keep things cool.
Actually thought we would get a few more of the Contesters down to the event but it didn't happen, must have been other priorities. The field Day Committee did a nice job putting things together for the event. Jerry France and Dick Jernigan helped the new techs get involved with HF and gave our one celeberity Buster Johnson, our County Supervisor a tour of the site.
The Field Day Event demonstrated our Emergency Communication Capability "Readiness" and validated our communications equipment. It also gave us a few things to think about while preparing for our up coming Special Event Station in October. Check the Proclamation issued by the Governor of Arizona.
While we were having dinner (Pizza) Linda Fulmer KE7VMF was outside on the phone when she saw a 5-1/2' diamondback rattle snake cruising by. Bill Bryan had the thing in his cluches and in a container in a heart beat. He held him out just long enough for a photo. You can bet all eyes were busy for the rest of the event.
The Field Day Event was the first time we got to test our new emergency trailer. Schick Reiner towed the trailer to and from Partners point and didn't seem to have any problem at all towing it. We have a new 2K generator but we actually used two of them for the event. (If anyone has a gas can they are going to put in a garage sale the Club could use another one)
